The Museum of Visual Materials is located in Downtown Sioux Falls, SD.  The concept for this museum is to interact with the community in a variety of different ways.  One of there more well known ideas is the actual building that they are located in.

The museum is housed in what they call a Green Building.  The building is LEED certified, meaning that it was built with strict specifications to ensure it has the smallest possible detriment to the Earth’s environment.

Features of the Museum of Visual Materials building

  • Uses Geo-Thermal heating
  • Solar Power Energy
  • Construction using renewable resources such as cork, bamboo, and wheat
  • Water efficient faucets and bathroom fixtures
  • Natural lighting areas

The Museum of Visual Materials has on display many pieces of artwork from local artists.  They also have an interesting collection of books both for kids and adults.  Figurines and sculptures are also apart of their collection.

There is also a demonstration kitchen where local chef’s come and do group cooking demonstrations.  The Museum also has available to the public a few sewing machines for use.

Sioux Falls has many locations to host a wedding reception.  The Museum of Visual Materials is one of the best places available to hold a wedding reception.  The staff there is great and they work easily with the caterer of your choice.  The reception area is beautiful and there is even room for a dance floor.
